Personal Project

Overview

Projects submitted for this contest must be something that was completed for the sole purpose of you wanting to do it. It cannot be prompted by a school assignment, work project, or other forces. These are projects for you, because you want to do them, because you wouldn’t get an opportunity to do so otherwise.

This project must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Must be created after the beginning of this current semester
  • Visual in nature
  • Not prompted by work, school, or other forces
  • Completed because it is something you wanted to do
  • Shared on the BYU-I Visual Comm Society & Emphasis Facebook group and any other social media platforms of your choice (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc). It would be great for you to showcase your process (write-up, speed video, video summary, etc.) along with your finished project.
  • Submitted in the form of a case study (see instructions below)

Case Study

When you finish your project you will be required to write up a case study and submit it in PDF format. This will help you refine a portfolio piece that will communicate your skills beyond just a single visual piece. You will want to put time into the visual appeal, completeness, and message since this will be a portion of what you are judged on in addition to your final project.

The case study should include at least the following:

  • Cover page
  • The Problem
  • The Solution
  • The Approach (Deliverables/Execution)
  • Learnings

Make sure that a person reading your case study can see and access your work. If your work is in a video format you might want to include a link(s) to it on YouTube.
