6-Days of Something

Overview

The objective of this project is to refine, practice, and develop one of your primary visual skills. The project will consist of 6 individual visual projects completed over the course of 7 days that are part of a consistent topic or theme.

This project must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Must be created after the beginning of this current semester
  • Visual in some way
  • Cannot be “fine art”
  • Must communicate a message
  • Must show a purpose a company would use (mock-up the finished project in a realistic scene)
  • A set of consistent projects, which are part of the same topic or theme
  • A total of 7 individual visual projects completed daily
  • Completed within 9 days (This leaves flexibility to not work on Sundays or to have extra days in-case of emergencies.)
  • Shared daily on the BYU-I Visual Comm Society & Emphasis Facebook group and any other social media platforms of your choice (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc). These social media posts should showcase your process (write-up, speed video, video summary, etc.) along with your finished daily project.
  • Submitted in the form of a case study (see instructions below)

NOTE: Students planning on taking COMM 462 will be required to complete a 18-Days of Something project. This can be completed before the class starts. To get more information on this please contact the current instructor of COMM 462.

Case Study

When you finish your project you will be required to write up a case study and submit it in PDF format. This will help you refine a portfolio piece that will communicate your skills beyond just a single visual piece. You will want to put time into the visual appeal, completeness, and message since this will be a portion of what you are judged on in addition to your final project.

The case study should include at least the following:

  • Cover page
  • The Problem
  • The Solution
  • The Approach (Deliverables/Execution)
  • Learnings

Make sure that a person reading your case study can see and access your work. If your work is in a video format you might want to include a link(s) to it on YouTube.
